Recall alert: Sierra Nevada raw milk cheese linked to E. coli outbreak

Check your fridge and freezer. Four types of Sierra Nevada Graziers grass-fed raw milk cheeses are being recalled.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the cheese is linked to an E. coli outbreak.
On September 24, the FDA contacted the company to notify them about this outbreak and recommend that they conduct a recall.
The cheese was sold at retailers nationwide and online.
The recall involves the company’s medium cheddar, sharp cheddar, jalapeño jack, and Monterey jack sold in 8-oz or 16-oz packages to customers and available to wholesalers in 5-lb loaves.
13 people have gotten sick, and nine people have ended up in the hospital. According to the FDA, over half of the sick people in this outbreak are children 5 years old or younger. So far, there are no illnesses in Washington.
If you have the product at home – don’t eat it. Instead, you can return it to the place of purchase for a refund. The FDA warns that this product has a long shelf life so if you stored it without the original packaging, you should toss it out as a precaution.
FDA’s investigation is ongoing to determine the source of contamination and whether there are any other products that could be impacted.
