Report: Snohomish County exec used office for reelection campaign

Feb 16, 2012, 4:18 AM | Updated: 6:57 am

Snohomish County executive Aaron Reardon might have more than just the State Patrol investigation into his alleged affair to worry about. Election watchdogs are now looking over his recent reelection campaign.

Cell phone and office records uncovered during the affair investigation have revealed that Executive Reardon used a lot of office time and resources for his campaign.

The Everett Herald reports Reardon used 124-hours of county business time to work on his campaign, including meetings with consultants and strategists.

The Herald also reports there were nearly 1000 phone calls made from his taxpayer-funded cell phone to raise money. Both of those are major election law violations which could come with thousands of dollars worth of fines.

These campaign activities were hidden as “staff meetings” on his public schedule.

Reardon maintains he did not use public resources to win a third term.
