Bahama Breeze, a restaurant chain featuring Caribbean food and tropical cocktails set against a beach aesthetic, is closing all of its locations — including the sole Washington establishment in Tukwila.

According to Darden Brands, the owner of Bahama Breeze, the chain became “no longer a strategic priority.”

The Caribbean-themed eatery has 28 locations in the U.S. Half of the restaurants are expected to be converted into other Darden Brands establishments, including Olive Garden, Yard House, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Seasons 52, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, The Capital Grille, Chuy’s, and Eddie V’s. As of this reporting, Darden Brands has not revealed which restaurant the company owns will take over the soon-to-be converted locations.

“The company believes the conversion locations are great sites that will benefit several of the brands in its portfolio,” Darden Brands stated in a press release. “Going forward, the primary focus will continue to be on supporting team members, including placing as many as possible in roles within the Darden portfolio.”

The conversion will take approximately 12-18 months. The other half of the restaurants will permanently close.

The Tukwila location will officially close on April 5, impacting 93 employees.

“Please know that this closure is not a reflection of the hard work and contributions you made every day in providing an exceptional Caribbean-inspired experience for our guests,” Bahama Breeze stated to its employees, according to KIRO 7. “Rather, the decision was made based on the operating environment at and around this location.”
