A boy digging a hole in a sand pile at his home near Roslyn is dead.

Sand collapsed around 7-year-old Clayton Everley Wednesday afternoon, burying his head and trapping his arms and shoulders, according to the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office.

The boy’s parents found him and his father started CPR, using a defibrillator from his work vehicle. The child was rushed by ambulance to Kittitas Valley Hospital, in Ellensburg, before he was then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died.

Investigations are underway by the sheriff’s office and the King County Medical Examiner.
