Sacramento Kings owner reiterates desire to sell to Seattle group

One of the owners of the Sacramento Kings is reiterating his family’s wish to sell the team to the investment group looking to move it to Seattle.
“We have a binding agreement,” George Maloof told The Seattle Times in a brief interview Tuesday. “That’s our commitment, to Chris and Steve. We want to see it through.”
Maloof, in Dallas for the NBA’s Board of Governors meeting to determine the fate of the Kings, said he couldn’t comment further and was just waiting to see what happens Wednesday.
Maloof’s comments are no surprise. The family reached an agreement with the Hansen group months ago to sell the team and move it to Seattle, but a committee of owners voted last month 7-0 to recommend owners block the relocation.
The Maloofs have said they will not sell to a Sacramento group making a counter offer and working to build a new arena in their city.
Hansen announced a new backup agreement over the weekend to buy a 20 percent stake in the team and allow the Maloofs to retain majority ownership of the team.
The NBA’s relocation committee met again Monday, but reportedly took no action. The NBA refused to comment.
