1 dead, 3 hurt in Everett crashes that closed I-5

Southbound Interstate 5 was shut down near Marine View Drive in Everett for hours after two separate crashes that resulted in a fatality.

The crashes happened at about 11:45 p.m. Sunday. Southbound I-5 did not reopen until shortly before 5 a.m.

All traffic was detoured onto State Route 529.

The first crash involved three passenger vehicles. Soon after, a semi and three other vehicles crashed in the same area.

Three people had minor injuries.
