A group of die-hard Seahawks fans is taking their 12s pride to new heights, literally, by raising money to fly a massive 12 Man flag over San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge during Super Bowl weekend.

The idea comes from Tansey Allen, a longtime Seahawks fan who wanted to make a bold statement ahead of the game in the Bay Area. If fully funded, the plan calls for a plane to tow the blue-and-green 12 flag over the iconic bridge as fans from around the country descend on San Francisco.

However, it wasn’t Allen’s first plan.

“Is there a way I can get a 12 flag on the Golden Gate Bridge? I’m like, nah, the legal stuff with that, like the safety issues,” Allen explained. “But I can fly one over that bridge just fine.”

Getting the 12s airborne at the Super Bowl

Allen told KIRO Newsradio she has the plane and a willing pilot lined up for the job. She just needs a giant, 35’x35′ 12 Man Flag built, which costs $3,000. She also needs money to officially hire the airplane advertisement company.

“It’s like $3,000 to get the 35 by 35 flag made. And then, for four hours, from Monday through Saturday, it’s like $3,000 a flight per day,” Allen said. “Or if we commit to their weekend package … it would be Friday, Saturday, Sunday, six hours per day, at $30,000, and that includes the flag and the actual Super Bowl Day.”

Allen set up a GoFundMe page and is trying to get the word out to all 12’s. The site has already drawn attention from fans eager to see Seattle colors flying over rival territory. At the time of publishing, she’s raised more than $4,500.

Seahawks fans are no strangers to extreme displays of loyalty. Over the years, fans have gotten tattoos before Super Bowl runs and painted themselves head-to-toe in team colors, including one fan known as “Sea Hulk,” who famously transformed himself into a green, Seahawks-themed Hulk during Super Bowl 49.

Allen’s plan may top them all.

Organizers said the effort is about more than just bragging rights. It’s about showing the reach and passion of the 12s fan base.

“This is really like for the 12’s,” Allen said. “This is for the 12’s to be part of something. Everybody is priced out of tickets. Like, the tickets are astronomical. So many fans would love to be there, and they can’t.”

If the flyover happens and the Seahawks win the Super Bowl, organizers said they plan to donate the flag to the group that hangs a giant 12 flag each season along I-90 in the Cascade foothills near Issaquah — a familiar sight to many drivers heading west toward Seattle, the home of the Seahawks.
