A Seattle architecture firm is raising money to build a free, public wood-fired floating sauna on the city’s Union Bay.
GoCstudio plans a party Friday to launch a $43,000 Kickstarter campaign to build the sauna next summer.
“We imagine this will be a very unique and memorable addition to Seattle,” said architect Aimee O’Carroll.
The team wants to build more floating saunas in Seattle and hopes this first one will serve as a successful prototype.
The sauna would be 120 square feet; part of which is a deck to dock a kayak and the other an enclosed sauna. The main deck and roof can be reached by a ladder that extends into the water.
Users must bring wood by boat to get the sauna up and running.
The campaign has raised about $4,000 as of Wednesday morning.
