Seattle Central Library to open again for Seahawks

The Seattle Central Library will be a lot noisier than usual as the 12th Librarian hosts a live broadcast of the NFC Championship game between the Seahawks and 49ers Sunday.
It’s the second week in a row the Central Library is showing the Seahawks in its Microsoft Auditorium.
“We really didn’t know what to expect,” said City Librarian Marcellus Turner, who watched the game with Library patrons in his Seahawks jersey. “But then again, we probably have one of the largest screens in town – 15 x 20 feet!” Turner said people started lining up in front of the auditorium about an hour before the game. By the start of the game, every seat was taken.
The only problem was the library didn’t have enough free cookies for everyone, Turner said. But he promised this weekend there’ll be plenty.
There is no admission. Doors open for seating at 2:30 p.m. Seats are available on a first come, first served basis. The auditorium can accommodate about 275 people.
Turner said he received a lot of positive feedback from families, regular patrons as well as out of town visitors, who watched the game at the Library. “The first thing I was asked after the Seahawks victory, was whether or not we would be showing the NFC championship game,” he said. “I’m happy that we are able to do it.”
If the game runs past 6 p.m. – Central Library closing time – people in the auditorium will be allowed to stay until the game concludes. “The rest of the Library will close at 6 p.m.” he said. Turner said the same rules will apply in the auditorium as last week. “No one will be shushed for cheering,” he said.
