A fire broke out overnight in a home within Seattle’s Central District neighborhood, the Seattle Fire Department confirmed.

SFD was first informed of the fire at 11:23 p.m., coming from a two-story home on S. Massachusetts Street. Fire crews battled the flames until just around midnight Tuesday. The fire was intense enough that neighboring homes needed to be evacuated.

“Engine 6 was the first unit on scene, and they reported flames visible through multiple windows of the entire building,” Seattle Fire reported. “Forcing crews to establish a defensive position by putting water on the fire at a safe distance away from the building.”

Central District fire put out by midnight

Once the fire was extinguished, Seattle Fire determined the building was structurally damaged and unsafe to enter the home.

“Fortunately, the resident was later found on scene with no reported injuries,” Seattle Fire stated.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
