High temps cause road to buckle in SoDo

Crews spent Wednesday evening repairing a stretch of road in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood after a heat wave caused it to buckle.

The damage happened in the northbound lanes of Fourth Avenue South at South Industrial Way at about 5:30 p.m. when temperatures were at about 90 degrees.
A 44-year-old woman in a car was treated in the area of the buckled road, Seattle fire officials said. She suffered minor injuries.
Officials did not say what happened to the woman or if she had hit the buckled portion of the street.
SDOT engineers worked overnight to get the road repaired, managing to get the street reopened “shortly before midnight.” A temporary fix was put in, but there’s still a “noticeable bump. Drivers are warned to slow down to 10 miles per hour over the bump, or consider alternate routes until a more permanent fix is installed.
