“Good Morning.” “$%& You!” A new study based on those two simple phrases on Twitter finds Buffalo, New York is among the rudest places in America, while people are far friendlier in the Midwest and the South, according to a series of maps compiled using Twitter comments.

The results are based on a unique study put together by
Vertaline, a company that tracks words and phrases on Twitter for paying clients, according to the Mail Online .

The company put together a heat map showing the frequency of the two terms on certain days in June and July.

The Northwest barely registers on the unscientific study. It shows minimal activity for both statements.

But KIRO Radio’s Kim Shepard says in her own un-scientific study after first moving to town, the Seattle area is more than friendly, even if we don’t show it on Twitter.

“When I would walk down the street, if there were people walking they would actually look me in the eye and say ‘hello,’ ‘hi,’ ‘how are you?’ ‘Good morning’ or whatever. Other cities I’ve lived in you didn’t get that response. So I don’t know about politeness in general, but that is something that struck me when I first moved here,” Shepard says.
