Seattle mayor, Washington governor celebrate Seahawks’ Super Bowl victory

Washington’s governor and Seattle’s mayor were on hand at MetLife Stadium as the Seattle Seahawks beat out the Denver Broncos to become the World Champions at Super Bowl XLVIII.
Governor Jay Inslee was “amped” after the Super Bowl calling it a “12th Man victory” but also giving the team a little credit.
“The Seahawks were playing with strut, with pride […] Sherman’s speech or Lynch’s non-speech, or Carroll’s meditation, man,” said Inslee as the 12th Man cheered behind him. “But these guys, they were playing somewhere else tonight.”
Inslee said a win like this is good for morale across the state.
For Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, a Super Bowl victory means two things: the city will have a “really big” party and he won a wager made with the mayor of Denver.
“It’s been an incredible ride,” Murray told KIRO Radio reporter Chris Sullivan after the game. “But what’s really been incredible is how excited people have gotten around the Seahawks, even in New York.”
“What a great day for the Seahawks and a great day for Seattle,” Murray said Monday in a statement. “This is the first NFL Championship for the team and a great achievement for the franchise. My congratulations go to the players, coaches and to the fans who all contributed to win this title. Now the city will prepare to celebrate in the way that only Seattle knows how.”
That “really big” party will be Wednesday.
The Seahawks will parade through downtown Seattle starting at 11:00 a.m.
The Super Bowl victory also means that Murray won the traditional mayoral bet with Denver Mayor Michael Hancock.
Hancock will send Murray a sample of some of Denver’s finest green chile, a hoodie, ball cap and skis handmade by Denver’s Icelantic Skis.
