Lorena Gonzalez officially conceded on Thursday evening, with Bruce Harrell now ticketed to be Seattle’s next mayor.

The gap between Harrell and Gonzalez had closed slightly with Monday’s final large vote tally, although Harrell still maintained a sizable 59% to 41% advantage.

Harrell held a 30-point advantage after the initial election night tallies, and was up 64% to 35% after Wednesday’s count.

“With today’s ballot drop, it’s clear that Bruce Harrell will be the next Mayor of Seattle,” Gonzalez said in her concession statement issued last week. “Earlier, I called him to congratulate him on a hard-fought race and wished him much luck in his efforts to make progress on the challenges Seattle faces.”

With incumbent Jenny Durkan not running for reelection, the field for Seattle’s mayoral race started with 15 total candidates vying for the role in the August primary. As the top two vote-getters, Harrell and Gonzalez both advanced to the general election, after receiving 34% and 32% of votes, respectively.

Harrell previously served on Seattle City Council for 12 years, including a stint as council president, and a brief tenure as interim mayor after the 2017 resignation of Ed Murray.

Gonzalez has served on the dais since 2016, and assumed the role of council president after Harrell opted not to run for reelection to his District 2 seat in 2019. Gonzalez similarly chose not to run for reelection to city council in 2019.
