Seattle police foil bank heist downtown

Sep 4, 2012, 11:32 AM | Updated: 12:42 pm

Police say a man tried to rob a downtown Seattle bank Tuesday morning, but was arrested as he attempted to flee.

The 24-year-old suspect entered the Key Bank at 815 Second Ave. shortly after 11 a.m. When he asked a teller about his account, he was directed to speak with a customer service representative as his account had been closed.

“That’s when he apparently made his demand for cash,” said Detective Renee Witt with the Seattle Police Department.

Witt said the man placed the cash into a bag and attempted to leave the bank.

“The alarm might have been tripped, at which point of course we get the call from the alarm company,” she said. “Officers were in the area and they were able to get there so quickly.”

The man did not have a weapon and no one was injured in the incident, Witt said.

The suspect has been booked into jail for investigation of robbery.
