Seattle police investigate man’s death near Washington State Convention Center

Seattle police are trying to figure out what led to a man’s death in Freeway Park, near the Washington State Convention Center.
He suffered a severe head injury, but it’s unclear how it happened.
Police say at 6:23 p.m. Saturday evening, the Seattle Dispatch Center received 911 calls about a man on the ground near Union Street and Convention Place.
The callers told dispatchers the man was bleeding.
Police arrived and found a 44-year-old man with obvious head trauma.
Officers tried saving his life, by administering emergency CPR.
But unfortunately they were not successful reviving the man.
Seattle Fire medics arrived a short time later.
They continued life-saving efforts on the victim.
Despite that continuing medical care by police and paramedics, the fire department eventually pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Officers cordoned off the area where the man was found.
Seattle Police deployed a team of homicide detectives and its Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
Team members began collecting evidence in the area and processing the scene.
Police transferred custody of the man’s body to the King County Medical Examiner’s office.
The office’s staff will work to identify the man and determine the cause and manner of death.
