Seattle is not at a loss for stories which speak to the growing homelessness issue, and rat hunting is certainly one of them.

On Sunday, Seattle police arrested a man for shooting rats with an Airsoft rifle in a greenbelt near Interstate 90, according to the SPD Blotter. The incident first came to police attention after a motorist called 911 and reported seeing a man point what appeared to be a gun at traffic.

But the 41-year-old man told police when they arrived that he was using the Airsoft rifle to “shoot rats” in the homeless encampment, who were probably relieved when the police arrived. He was found in the encampment between I-90 and Judge Charles M. Stokes overlook — a common camp for Seattle’s Navigation Team to visit.

There’s no indication as to why the man was rat hunting (not that rats are popular anywhere they go).

He was booked in King County Jail the unlawful use of a weapon in a public place.
