Seattle Public Schools has created a COVID-19 dashboard to track confirmed cases among students and staff in the district.

Seattle school district, teachers union reach tentative deal on COVID mandates

The public-facing dashboard will be refreshed weekly on Mondays, with each week defined as Saturday to Friday. Data is divided into cases by region, week, and role to provide a better understanding of how the pandemic is impacting the district.

As of Sept. 9, there have been 44 cases in SPS — three of which are among staff, and 41 among students. The highest number of cases (14) is in the Southwest region. The dashboard only includes cases of COVID-19 confirmed on or after Sept. 4.

The confirmed case exposure reported in the dashboard may not have occurred at SPS sites. Currently, individuals with a confirmed case are represented once in the dashboard. The attributed location represents the primary exposure site for each case.

The first day of school for SPS was Sept. 1, when thousands of Seattle students returned to campus in person after a year of mostly remote learning in 2020.

Masks are mandatory for all students, educators, and staff indoors on school grounds. This is a recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Additionally, schools are working to keep desks at least 3 feet apart, following another recommendation from the CDC.

There is also a statewide vaccine mandate in place for all school staff and educators in K-12 schools. Staff members could risk losing their jobs if they are not vaccinated by Oct. 18.
