Schools in Seattle’s Dunlap neighborhood were ordered to shelter in place Thursday morning after a person was seen in the area with a weapon.

“Shelter in place is put in place out of an abundance of caution,” said Tim Robinson with Seattle Public Schools. “…School is still in … the school day proceeds normally.”

Robinson notes that “shelter in place” means the school day continues as normal, but no one is allowed to leave the school while the order is in place.

Seattle police report that officers were responding to 4800 South Henderson Street, which is the address of the South Shore K-8 school. Nearby schools include Dunlap Elementary School, South Lake High School, and Rainier Beach High School.

The order to shelter in place was removed by 12:37 p.m. Seattle police report that no one in the area was found with a weapon.
