Seattle shooting suspects charged with murder, assaults

Two men suspected in the downtown Seattle shooting that left one woman dead and seven other people injured were formally charged on Wednesday in a Las Vegas court.

Marquise Tolbert and William Tolliver were each charged with first degree murder and six counts of assault in the first degree, according to court documents.

Tolbert is also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm in the first degree, bringing the total charges to eight. Tolliver is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm in the second degree, also bringing the total charges to eight.

The King County Prosecutor’s Office says Tolbert and Tolliver are held on no bond. They have a tentative arraignment hearing scheduled for Feb. 19 at 8:30 a.m. in King County Court. They told a judge on Tuesday they will not contest extradition to Seattle.

Both men were arrested on Saturday near the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas.

A third suspect, 21-year-old Jamel Jackson, was arrested at Harborview Medical Center on Jan. 22 — the night of the shooting at Third and Pine. He’s been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm in the first degree. His bail was set at $50,000.

Tolbert and Tolliver are documented gang members and have extensive criminal histories. Tolliver, 24, has been arrested 44 times with 20 convictions, for offenses including unlawful possession of a firearm, theft, malicious mischief, and assault. Tolbert, 24, has been arrested 21 times with 15 convictions, including robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, discharging a firearm in a public place, theft, and harassment.

Tolliver has one conviction for a Class C felony, while Tolbert has two for a Class B felony, and one other for a Class C. A Class B felony typically comes with a prison term up 10 years, while Class C is punishable up to five years.
