Chance of snow Monday as opportunity ‘quickly running out toward April’

Mar 25, 2021, 3:10 PM

This weekend’s warm, sunny weather isn’t expected to last into next week.

According to KIRO 7 Meteorologist Nick Allard, rain will return on Sunday and continue into Monday.

Allard says that while most precipitation will taper off Monday morning, snow levels will be below 1,000 feet, “so we could see some wet snowflakes mix in with any moisture that’s still out there.”

That said, don’t get too excited. Given that the end of precipitation is forecasted for late Monday morning, and combined with relatively warm ground conditions, Allard isn’t expecting any real issues.

“Just a sign it’s still cool out there as we’re just coming out of winter, but our chances for lowland snow are quickly running out toward April,” Allard said.

As an added note, snow in Seattle in April is very rare. According to Allard, only three times has at least an inch of snow fallen in the region in April, most recently in 1972, and previously in 1924 and 1895.
