From PlantCon to Get Sauced: Here’s what’s happening around Seattle this weekend

The final countdown of the summer is on, but we’ve got another great weekend of weather ahead, so all the more reason to get out there and explore!

Chief Seattle Days returns with salmon bakes, canoe racing, and a Powwow

Learn about the namesake of Seattle during Chief Seattle Days, which is hosted by the Suquamish Tribe. This weekend-long event is in honor of Chief Seattle and features a memorial Gravesite Honoring ceremony, a parade, a variety of tournaments of various sports like golf, canoe racing, softball, and more, plus the Powwow and Coastal Jam and the signature Salmon Bake. Travel the world without leaving the Puget Sound

If you are interested in learning something new about different regions of our country and even the world, there’s a variety of events this weekend that will do just that. On Pier 62, you’ll find the Waba Korea Expo and Festival, which is a celebration of Korean culture with food, dance, and more. The Festál program continues on Sunday with BrasilFest at the Seattle Center.

On Saturday, the Lynnwood Event Center will be hosting the Lynnwood Luau, which is a celebration of Hawaii. Finally, in Kent, at Burlington Green Park is the Cajun and Creole Fest, which will have all sorts of amazing food and, of course, lots of live music. There will also be vendors to shop from and family-friendly fun. The Cajun Creole Fest is Saturday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Get hands-on with design at Lake Union Park this weekend

The Seattle Design Festival Block Party is this weekend at Lake Union Park, and this will be a perfect reason to get out by the water, enjoy the sun, and see some cool interactive art. You’ll find interactive structures that engage the senses, pop-up experiences like workshops and learning opportunities, plus plenty of presentations on the main stage. The SDF Block Party is Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For the foodies: Chomp! at Marymoor Park and Get Sauced in Mountlake Terrace

For the foodies in your life, there are a couple of options this weekend. Chomp! is an event in Redmond at Marymoor Park that, as their website says, celebrates all that is fresh, delicious, local, and sustainable in King County. This event highlights local farms and farmers, as well as chefs and restaurants that use locally sourced food and organizations that help! In addition to all the good food, there will be live music and a variety of activities for you and the family. Chomp is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The fans of spicy food will want to head to the West Plaza Marketplace in Mountlake Terrace for Get Sauced. Here you will find around 40 vendors serving up a variety of hot sauces and spices. In addition to all the spice, there will also be food trucks and other vendors to shop from, but this will be the perfect event to find something to bring a kick to your next dinner. All of the vendors are from the Pacific Northwest, and the event is just a 10-minute walk from the Mountlake Terrace Light Rail Station. Get Sauced is free to attend and takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The nation’s largest plant convention comes to Seattle for the first time

If you or someone you know has a green thumb, PlantCon will be a good place to spend your weekend. On Saturday and Sunday at the Seattle Convention Center, the largest plant hobbyist convention in the nation will be in town for the first time. PlantCon will have over 175 plant and plant-related booths, workshops, and hands-on activities to learn about plants, including family-friendly events, plus presentations and other information to help you create your dream garden. Tickets are still available.

400 artists, 3,000 tattoos, and 25 years of ink at Seattle Center

Earlier this week, I got the chance to speak with one of the over 400 artists who will be creating over 3,000 tattoos this weekend during the Seattle Tattoo Expo. This will be a great place for you to find an artist who will match exactly what you are looking for, whether it is your first or 50th tattoo. This is the 25th anniversary of the Expo, and it will be running today through Sunday at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall. Tickets are still available, and the event is for all ages.

The Capitol Hill Garage Sale takes over Cal Anderson Park

On Capitol Hill, the Capitol Hill Garage Sale will have 150 sellers waiting to help you find your next favorite piece for your home or maybe that collectible you’ve been hunting for years. The sale is Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cal Anderson Park.
