Monday marks the one-year anniversary of the deadly Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando.
Members of the LGBTQ community in the Puget Sound region will gather at Cal Anderson Park at 7 p.m. to remember the victims of the shooting.
Over the weekend, thousands of people also remembered those victims in the Equality March for Unity and Pride.
“I think now is a very politically hot time and it’s time we stand up and show our colors,” Jacob Friedmann said during the march.
The Orlando shooting — which left 49 people dead and injured dozens — was the deadliest attack against the gay community in U.S. history. The shooter, Omar Mateen, was killed in a shootout with police at the nightclub.
After the massacre, Mateen’s wife, Noor Salman, admitted to police that she talked about the attack with Mateen. She was later charged with obstructing a federal investigation, as well as aiding Mateen.
At noon on Monday, church bells in Orlando will ring 49 times in honor of the victims. Florida Governor Rick Scott has also ordered flags around the state to be flown at half-staff.
