Sheriff: Missing Everett woman’s car found, body inside

Investigators believe they have discovered the body of an Everett woman who has been missing for nearly a month.
A Snohomish County sheriff’s search and rescue helicopter located a car belonging to 89-year-old Ethel O’Neil with a body inside.
The 1987 Chevy Nova was found Tuesday afternoon in bushes off of 12th St. NE near Lake Stevens.
Spokesmen for Everett police and the sheriff’s office say the car’s occupant has not yet been identified. The Snohomish County medical examiner will identify the body and establish the cause of death.
O’Neil has been missing since July 16. The Everett Herald reports she had early signs of dementia. Investigators say she may have gotten lost while on a trip to the Everett Mall, which is just a few miles from her home.
The sheriff’s office says community tips indicate she was last seen in the Lake Stevens or Marysville area, where she asked for a map and directions back to Everett.
The Herald reports investigators do not suspect foul play.
O’Neil’s family described her as a caring woman who sang at senior homes. They posted a $5,000 reward for tips in the case earlier this week, according to the Herald.
