Woman injured in Edmonds shooting dies, suspect turns self in to police

One of the victims of a Tuesday shooting at Boo Han market in Edmonds has died from her injuries Wednesday after gunshot wounds in her arms, abdomen, and torso.

Edmonds Police have confirmed that the woman who died was the roommate of the gunman’s estranged wife. The wife, who was shot in the face, and the roommate’s boyfriend both remain hospitalized. The wife is in serious condition and the boyfriend is in stable condition, Edmonds Police said Wednesday.

The wife has been identified as a 24-year-old from Mountlake Terrace who was working at the market at the time, police said Wednesday. The roommate also works at the market, but is understood to have not been working at the time of the shooting.

Police reported that the suspect in the shooting had turned himself in at an Everett Police precinct Tuesday night.

Edmonds PD said that investigators worked with the Washington State Patrol lab overnight at the shooting scene, and interviewed the 27-year-old suspect.

Three people were shot at the market in 22600 block of Highway 99 after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Edmonds Police said the three people shot were taken to the hospital, but their conditions were initially unknown. Officers found the victims in the entryway when they arrived and began treating them. On Wednesday, police were able to confirm that the incident took place outside of the store.

Sergeant Josh McClure said Tuesday that it is believed that the victims are all in their 20s or 30s. It was also believed early on that the suspect may be known to one or any of the victims. Edmonds Police later confirmed that the most seriously injured woman identified the suspect as her estranged husband.

Police understand that the woman had only been separated from her husband for a matter of days and that her estranged husband had threatened to shoot her, and possibly her friend and roommate as well.

The suspect and victims are all determined to be of Vietnamese descent, McClure said. There is a significant language barrier, McClure explained, and all interactions will be assisted by an interpreter.

McClure also noted that this comes on the eve of Oct. 1, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“If you feel unsafe, we are there to help you,” McClure said. “As far as the Edmonds Police Department, we encourage anyone to reach out if they feel unsafe and we will do our best to help you.”

The names of the victims are not being released at this time.

The sergeant said the Boo Han market and surrounding businesses are a popular location for members of the local Asian community. He used the word “chaos” to describe the initial scene, adding that there were a lot of witnesses and customers in the area at the time of the shooting.
