Authorities have arrested a man in connection with Wednesday night’s deadly hospital shooting in Tacoma, police said.

The 25-year-old man was identified as a suspect in the shooting at MultiCare Allenmore Hospital, where a man was killed and a woman was injured. On Friday, he was taken into custody in Kittitas County with help from the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Spokane Police Department, according to a post on the Tacoma Police Department’s Facebook page.

He was booked on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree assault, the post said

The shooting happened within an emergency room at the hospital sometime after 7 p.m. Wednesday. According to the Tacoma Police Department, officers believe the shooting was targeted. A woman and her boyfriend were allegedly involved in a fight with someone outside of the hospital before the person followed the couple into the emergency room and opened fire.

The woman, 21, had a bullet graze her. Her boyfriend was killed in the shooting.

“I know that she’s pretty shaken up because her boyfriend, I guess, like, pushed her out of the way, so she just watched him get shot pretty bad,” the woman’s uncle told KIRO 7. “I’m more worried about her mental and emotional state right now, more than anything.”

MultiCare Allenmore Hospital released a statement following the shooting.

“MultiCare Allenmore Hospital is currently on restricted access due to an incident in the emergency department (ED),” the hospital stated. “The ED is open for walk-in patients. Restricted access doesn’t allow for any visitors at this time. Tacoma Police are on-site investigating the incident. One person died as a result of this incident. All MultiCare staff are safe and unharmed.”

This is a developing story, check back for updates
