Your kids get graded, so why not their schools?

On Tuesday, lawmakers in Olympia will discuss a bill that would assign each of the state’s public schools a letter grade based on performance.

“I want parents to know that my child attends a “B” school, but down the street there is an “A” school,” says Rep. Cathy Dahlquist.

Senate Bill 5328 would reward schools who have higher letter grades. Schools with a good grade would get more control over their money and teachers would be eligible for bonuses.

“If you’re an “A” school, you should be recognized and rewarded for good behavior and really good results,” says Dahlquist. “To me it’s all about what’s best for students and student outcomes.”

The system will only apply to charter schools if they opt in.
