Supporters of the Showbox Market have received a couple pieces of hopeful news of late. City officials and the building’s owner are close to reaching a temporary legal stay which could allow the city another six months to save the Showbox, and now the venue will be considered for landmark status this June, reports Curbed.

In August, Historic Seattle and other nonprofits submitted a nomination to give the Showbox landmark status after developers announced plans to demolish the music venue and turn it into a 44-story apartment tower.

The city’s Landmark Preservation Board will review that nomination on June 5 at 3:30 p.m., where the public will be invited to comment.

There may be hope for El Corazon as well. The owner of the venue and its sister club the Funhouse recently confirmed to KIRO 7 that they will be moving to a temporary location for a few years, as the developer moves toward tearing down the building to build residential housing.

El Corazon does have an agreement to move back to its original location once construction on the housing complex is complete.

Initially, Seattle council members unanimously voted to expand the Pike Place Market Historical District to include the Showbox building in August of last year. The idea was initially put on the table by a Councilmember Kshama Sawant as efforts to save the Showbox gained momentum. This led to a lawsuit from the family that owns the building, who sued for $40 million in lost value due to the rezoning, now under the legal stay.
