A horrible car-versus-pedestrian crash in the Rainier Valley has put a six-year-old girl in the hospital.

First responders transported her to Harborview Medical Center with what were believed to be critical injuries at the time.

Later, police officers say they learned the girl did not suffer any broken bones and her injuries are considered minor.

Police say the girl and her mother were in a crosswalk just before noon Sunday, trying to get across Rainier Ave. S., when a woman driving an SUV struck her.

On off-duty parking enforcement officer at a construction site nearby saw the collision and ran over to provide medical aid.

Medics from the Seattle Fire Department arrived soon after, and continued treating the girl.

Police say the driver of the SUV did not appear to be impaired, was not arrested, and is cooperating with investigators.

The SUV was northbound on Rainier Ave. S., approaching S. Charles St.

Police say the impact of the collision threw the child into the air and onto the pavement.

A Drug Recognition Expert responded to the accident and evaluated the driver.

Detectives in the department’s Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) also responded.

Anyone who has information regarding the collision is urged to contact the TCIS at (206) 684-8923.
