The mother of a convicted spree killer believes con artists took advantage of her son’s mental state and “desperate loneliness” when they asked him for signed outlines of his hand that would later be sold online.

As first reported by The Seattle Times, several tracings of Isaac Zamora’s hands have been featured on “murderabilia” sites, such as murderauction.com and serialkillersink.net. The outlines, which are signed and dated, have sold for $30 to $45 a piece.

Zamora killed six people in Skagit County on Sept. 2, 2008. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity and sent to Western State Hospital, where he remains.

His mother, Dennise Zamora, said she was first made aware of the tracings by Christine Clarridge, a reporter for the Times.

Contacted by telephone, Zamora told KIRO FM that she was “devastated” by the news.

“I’m terribly upset, but my concern is for the victims’ family members. I can’t imagine how they cope with this,” she said. “I can hardly cope with it … I’m so sorry for it all.”

Zamora said she called her son after learning about the memorabilia. He told her he made the outlines for a girl who had written to him and another individual who claimed to be part of a ministry.

“He can’t connect the dots, he just didn’t get it,” she said. “He thought he had found new friends.”

Zamora said she wants to reassure the public that her son made no money off the items and did not know they would be for sale.

“He might be crazy, but he still has a bit of integrity.”
