Tear gas, pepper balls, dog bites, and an armored vehicle tearing down a wall: That’s what it took to remove an intoxicated man from Snohomish County home early Monday morning, following an eight-hour overnight standoff.

The call came in from a woman around 7:40 p.m. Sunday, reporting that her ex-boyfriend — a 32-year-old Everett man — was in her home, firing a 9mm gun. The man was said to be intoxicated, and proceeded to barricade himself inside the house. The woman managed to safely escape, before SWAT arrived on the scene around 9:30 p.m.
The unit was unsuccessful in attempts to negotiate with the man. It then deployed tear gas and pepper balls, both of which failed to force the man out of the house.
SWAT finally deployed its armored BearCat vehicle to rip a chunk out of the outer wall to enter the home with its K9 team. From there, the suspect was taken into custody around 4 a.m., and sent to Providence Regional Medical Center for dog bites and “other minor injuries.”
He will be booked into Snohomish County jail for 2nd degree domestic violence assault, and 2nd degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
