Soldier charged with raping girl, 13, he met online while deployed

A soldier is charged with raping a 13-year-old girl from Lacey that he met online while deployed in Afghanistan.

The two had multiple online conversations through the website “meetme.com,” according to Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist, who said Glen Winans, 47, first met the girl one month ago when he drove to her home. The girl told Winans she was 15. Lindquist said the girl and the defendant had sex that night.

Last Friday, the prosecutor claims Winans picked up the girl at her home and brought her back to his home in Lakewood where the girl spent the night. The next day, a waitress at a Lakewood cafe called police after she overheard the defendant tell the child that he liked young girls.

The girl told detectives that she had sex with the soldier. He denied the relationship.

Winans pleaded not guilty to second degree Rape of a Child. Bail was set at $100,000.
