Large apartment fire near Spanaway forces 14 to evacuate

Fourteen people were forced to evacuate an apartment building after a large structure fire in Spanaway on Thursday.

At approximately 2 p.m., Central Pierce Fire & Rescue (CPFR) responded to the fire in the 3500 block of Military Road E., CPFR announced.

Spanaway apartment building fire displaces 14 residents

As crews arrived, firefighters found a two-story structure with visible smoke and flames. Crews quickly began attempting to suppress the fire.

The fire was under control by approximately 3 p.m., and firefighters then transitioned towards overhaul and support for the displaced residents.

Thirteen residents were displaced, and one patient was transported to a local hospital.

Three apartment units were affected by the fire.

The Pierce County Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
