A Spanaway woman has died of injuries she suffered after a pit bull attack last week.

The 65-year-old woman was taking a morning walk on Oct. 30 in the 16200 block of Pacific Avenue South when she was mauled.

“We had two pit bulls that attacked a lady and some other motorists who tried to stop and help,” said Pierce County Sheriff’s Sergeant Ed Troyer. “Our officers arrived and ended up shooting one of the pit bulls. A motorist shot one of the other pit bulls.”

The woman has been at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Tacoma since the attack.

Troyer said the owner of the dogs could face charges if an autopsy confirms the woman’s death is related to the attack.
