A police sergeant in Seattle is being investigated for improper actions during a protest earlier in August.
The Seattle Police Department has placed the sergeant on paid administrative leave pending an investigation from the Office of Police Accountability into conduct at a demonstration on Aug. 13, 2020.
The department says the investigation is in regards to statements he may have made, as well as potential problems with his driving while on-duty, when he appeared to drive his SUV onto the sidewalk.
The SPD received multiple inquiries about a video showing a member of the public expressing concern about the statements made by the sergeant and his driving, where he described protesters as “running like cockroaches” away him driving his vehicle onto the sidewalk. The SPD has forwarded the video to the OPA for review.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact OPA at 206-684-8797.
