Three Seattle Starbucks locations closing, including one 8-month old Ballard location

One of the 250 North American stores Starbucks announced it would close was in Ballard.
The cafe, located on 999 NW Leary Way, officially closed after opening just eight months prior.
Two other Seattle Starbucks locations were affected by the nationwide closures: 1700 7th Ave in downtown Seattle and 9150 Rainier Ave S. in Rainier Beach. The company announced the closures earlier this week.
According to a letter sent to employees, Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams said the targeted locations either aren’t delivering acceptable financial results or can’t provide the kind of experience Starbucks wants for customers and employees.
“This progress has given us a clearer view of the performance of every coffeehouse,” Grams said in his letter. “While most are benefiting from this overall momentum, some coffeehouses continue to underperform despite the hard work and commitment of all of you.”
The Leary location is the second Starbucks to close in Ballard in the past year.
Starbucks said it will transfer employees to other stores if possible or provide severance support if it can’t place an employee in another location.
