State troopers set goal of zero fatalities along West Coast

State troopers will be conducting emphasis patrols for the Thanksgiving holiday along the entire West Coast stretch of I-5.
Officials from the California Highway Patrol, Oregon State Police and Washington State Patrol announced the “Arrive Alive on I-5” challenge Monday at the WSP district headquarters in Vancouver.
“It’s our hope that for the 1,300 mile stretch between the Canadian border and the border with Mexico that we lose no lives over this Thanksgiving holiday period,” said Washington State Patrol Chief John R. Batiste.
Drivers should prepare for traffic conditions, pay attention to the road, and give themselves plenty of time so they’re not rushed.
“The number one causes of collisions on our roadways of course, being driving under the influence, aggressive driving, and speed,” said Batiste.
