A driver in a stolen van led officers from four agencies on a 20-mile chase early Tuesday morning.
The chase began on I-405 in Bellevue and ended at 320th in Federal Way. In between, the driver went through downtown Renton, on and off Highway 167, onto highway 18, I-5 and even Highway 99.
“During that time we were engaged and disengaged,” said Washington State Trooper Julie Startup.
The pursuit was actually called off a few times when the stolen van got into heavy traffic or smaller roads off the highway. Trooper Startup called the chase “cautious.” Startup said the driver wasn’t going excessively fast so he was able to avoid the multiple spike strips that were put down in his path.
The chase ended when a trooper intentionally spun the van out performing a PIT maneuver. The driver was not injured and was arrested at the scene.
