There’s still some summer sunshine left

We still have just over 13 hours of daylight today — and we’ve lost almost three hours of daylight since the summer solstice, when we had nearly 16 hours.

We’re certainly not down to our winter minimum yet. On Dec. 21, we’ll have just 8 hours and 25 minutes of daylight. So, we’re somewhere in between — not 15 or 16 hours anymore, but definitely not eight hours yet.

And we’re going to make the most of it today with plenty of sunshine this afternoon.

It’s a mainly clear morning with cool temperatures and calm conditions. We’ll likely see some more fog fill in, along with patchy low clouds, with the best chance of low stratus early across the south interior and nearer the coast. But high pressure building aloft will bring us more sunshine through the day.

That sunshine will send temperatures up into the low to mid 70s in Seattle — right around average.

Wednesday will be the warmest day of the work week, with highs in Seattle in the upper 70s and some low 80s across the southern parts of the area. We’ll see some increasing clouds later in the day tomorrow, but it will still be a nice day.

Cloud cover will increase a bit more Thursday and Friday as another upper-level low approaches the area. Rain chances look to hold off until late Friday for most locations, with some off-and-on rain showers to start next weekend and a return to cooler-than-normal highs in the 60s to low 70s.

I have seen some computer model data that keeps us mainly dry, so there’s still some uncertainty there. We’ll watch it closely and let you know.
