Search called off for suspect who jumped off Nisqually River Bridge

A suspect driving a stolen vehicle jumped from the Nisqually River Bridge after the vehicle caught fire on southbound I-5 during a pursuit Friday morning.
The vehicle caught fire next to the bridge and the suspect jumped, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
Pierce County Sheriff spokesperson Ed Troyer says the suspect was seen swimming toward the shore. Air and water rescue units were searching for the suspect until those efforts were suspended due to safety concerns.
Troyer says the suspect may have been carried down river. There’s also a chance he’s in the woods nearby.
Law enforcement will monitor the area.
