A café in Woodinville was forced to temporarily shut down after a car crashed into it Sunday afternoon, injuring two people.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. Sunday, a red SUV crashed into the Woodinville Café, located on N.E. Woodinville Duvall Road, Eastside Fire & Rescue confirmed.

“We were literally right next to it … hit the booth right behind my brother … it nudged my brother’s chair, so it was a foot away from hitting our booth,” Will Brausieck, a customer at the Woodinville Café, told KIRO 7. “The rest of us all tried as best we could to get out of the booth and move to the back of the building just in case anything happened with the car … You never know in a car accident what’s leaking, what might catch fire.”

According to fire crews, five people were evaluated at the scene for injuries. Two people needed to be transported to a nearby hospital, but both suffered “non-serious injuries.”

Eastside Fire & Rescue investigated the cause of the crash and determined that the driver allegedly pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal.

The Woodinville Café is now boarded up, awaiting inspection by a structural engineer. It hopes to reopen within one to two weeks.
