Seattle police say a woman was killed in a domestic violence incident in the Northgate neighborhood Tuesday morning.

Police were called to a home on Northeast 105th Street near 9th Avenue about 8:30 a.m. for a report of an assault.

When officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old male and a 45-year-old woman inside with severe injuries. They then realized the woman was unresponsive and was dead.

They took the teen into custody, who surrendered to the police willingly, and launched a homicide investigation. Police later confirmed the teen is the woman’s son.

“Every domestic violence call we go to is cause for concern, not just for us, but for the people involved because they can boil over very quickly. And in a case like this, sadly, it ended in homicide, it appears,” said Patrick Michaud with Seattle police.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death and release the victim’s identity.
