Teresa Mosqueda appears to have solidified her bid for reelection to Seattle City Council’s Position 8 seat in the November general election, garnering 59% of the vote in the final large tally of votes from Monday.

Trailing is Kenneth Wilson with 40% of the vote, having lost several points between Tuesday and Monday’s tallies.

“I am optimistic about tonight’s results!” Mosqueda said on election night. “We knew this was going to be a close election given the frustration many people feel right now coming out of the pandemic, in an economy that isn’t working for all people, and a homelessness crisis that impacts too many,” Mosqueda said in a news release Tuesday night. “I feel good about where we are with the early support we received for action on our progressive priorities and the kind of coalition-driven approach I bring to Council. We will definitely be watching as the later ballots are counted.”

Incumbent Mosqueda assumed office in 2017. She led August’s primary with 59.4% of the vote to Wilson’s 16.2%, among 11 candidates.

A civil engineer who runs his own consulting business, Kenneth Wilson is a first time candidate who championed infrastructure issues in his campaign, telling MyNorthwest he would expedite repair to critical transportation if elected.
