The Crime Blotter: Right place, right time as cop stops theft of thousands of dollars in retail theft

A patrol officer with the Tukwila Police Department recovered several thousand dollars worth of clothes from an organized retail theft crime ring after conveniently being in the right place at the right time.

Suspects were exiting a store with carts and bags loaded with stolen merchandise when an employee tried to stop them, one of the thieves laughed and said “I’m going to push this cart right out those doors, and you’re not going to stop me or do anything about it.”

The employee pointed to the officer walking towards the store and said, “No, but he is.”

The suspect left the merchandise and fled the scene.

Man attempts to steal shotgun from a Walmart in Bellingham

An active incident at a Walmart was reported in a Bellingham Walmart on Wednesday.

Police received reports of a man who had tried to steal a shotgun and ammunition from the Walmart and tried to flee the store.

Bellingham police, with the help of a K-9 team, tracked down the man in the 4400 block of Hannegan by 6:30 p.m. Police said he tried to hide the shotgun, but it was recovered and the man was arrested.

The suspect is described as a white male, 20s-30s, wearing a black T-shirt with bright blue basketball pants with a gray and white stripe.

No shots were fired and no injuries have been reported at this time.

The suspect was booked into jail for investigation of first-degree burglary, reckless endangerment, theft of a firearm, second-degree malicious mischief, and obstructing.

Armed robbery at a cigar shop in Pierce County

Pierce County deputies were dispatched to reports of an armed robbery at a cigar shop at 18800 Meridian Street E in Graham.

When they arrived the shop owner gave them a description of the suspect and a vehicle, and they began searching the immediate area.

After 45 minutes, deputies found the suspect’s vehicle nearby at Canyon Road E., where they conducted a high-risk traffic stop to take the suspect into custody.

During the arrest, deputies noticed a large amount of cash in the car.

The 19-year-old suspect was booked into the Pierce County Jail for robbery in the first degree. He has no criminal history.

Stabbing in downtown Seattle leave man injured

Police are investigating a man who was stabbed Tuesday evening in downtown Seattle.

At 7:42 p.m. a 911 call came in with the report of a man who had flagged down the caller and said he had been stabbed near 3rd Ave. and University St.

Officers responding to the call helped the 52-year-old man, who had a cut on his arm and a stab wound in his stomach.

Medics from Seattle Fire Department transported him to Harborview Medical Center and said his injuries were not life-threatening.

Officers located and documented the scene of the stabbing. According to witnesses, the suspect had fled the area before police arrived, and he was not located.

Detectives are still investigating the issue.
