Seattle jewelry store ups security after multiple burglary attempts

A burglary on Wednesday at a Seattle jewelry store may have cost the store hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Robbers used a truck to back into the store on the 1600 block of First Avenue in Seattle.

The store owner told KIRO 7 TV that there had been three or four burglary attempts this year.

To try to combat the problem, the store has installed a new security system.

Heatwave making shellfish dangerous

The heat is making it more dangerous to gather shellfish on state beaches. Most of the coast and San Juan Islands are closed to everything except crabbing and shrimping as of this reporting.

Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning has been found in Orcas Island’s Buck Bay. People who bought shellfish from Buck Bay Shellfish Farm Tuesday or Wednesday should get rid of it. Even cooking does not make it safe.

Burn ban taking place in King County

Effective tomorrow at 8 a.m., a King County-wide Phase 1 burn ban, prohibiting the burning of yard debris, will take place.

The use of recreational fires and gas/propane appliances — including grills, pellet smokers and charcoal grills — is still permitted.

The decision for a burn ban comes from the King County Fire Chiefs Association, King County Fire Marshals Association, and the King County Fire Marshal.

The restrictions apply to all yard debris burning.
