A major investigation is underway in Auburn after police responded Tuesday night to a call of shots fired near the 2100 block of 66th Street Southeast.

Once officers went inside the home, they found the bodies of a man, woman, and child inside.

Neighbors say the deceased are a mother, father, and son.

“It’s the new year too, I don’t know why anybody would do this,” said Carmen Barlianto, who lives nearby.

Auburn police say it was just before 7 p.m. Tuesday when the call came in.

“The person who called 911 was a child who was also in the house and they were able to get out and call 911,” said Kolby Crossley with the Auburn Police Department.

Barlianto and others neighbors say that child is the couple’s daughter.

“It’s a tragedy for the family and I don’t know what’s going to happen to her,” Barlianto said.

In an update sent Wednesday from the Auburn PD, it was confirmed that the three people found dead inside the home were a 41-year-old male, 41-year-old female, and a 10-year-old child.

At the time of the shooting, Auburn PD says, another 12-year-old child was in the home, but they were able to get out with no injuries. The child got in touch with one of the neighbors, who dialed 911. The child as been safely housed and Auburn police are in contact with CPS.

“As of right now, it appears to be a murder/suicide, but detectives are still working to determine if that is in fact the case,” Crossley shared in a press release on Jan. 4. “There are no outstanding suspects at this time or threat to the public.”

Police tape and cop cars lined the road for hours Tuesday night, as neighbors looked on.

“The neighbors, we all get together and hang out together, watch football together,” Alfredo Roque said. “It’s kind of shocking that this happens right down the street.”

As investigators start to piece the case together, many are now wondering what happened at the home, and what the future holds for the couple’s daughter.

“I’m praying for that family,” neighbor Abdul Jama said. “My prayers and my thoughts are with them so we will see what’s going on.”
