Three rescued after small plane crashes into water near Mukilteo

Jul 21, 2025, 5:44 AM

A small plane needed to make an emergency water landing Sunday evening near Mukilteo Lighthouse Park, the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. Sunday near a boat dock at the park, located at 609 Front Street. Three people were rescued safely from the aircraft.

Officials said the plane lost power mid-flight, prompting the pilot to contact air traffic controllers at nearby Paine Field Airport to report the need for an emergency landing.

Bystanders and boaters jumped in the water to help the three people on board exit the aircraft once the pilot successfully brought the plane down into the water.

“Everyone started like rushing over, and I was like, OK, I need to run faster,” Zayda, one of the people who rushed in to help the people on the plane, told KIRO 7. “So I ran like really as fast as I can and I was just really hoping that I could help somebody if I needed to.”

Zayda recently became a certified lifeguard through Goldfish Swim School in Mill Creek.

No injuries were reported.

The aircraft sank into the water after everyone was rescued.

“We’d like to highlight the boaters and bystanders that immediately helped, and Mukilteo Fire Department for their quick response,” city officials said in a statement.
