Thunderstorms move in with cooler air across Puget Sound region

Aug 16, 2020, 8:30 PM | Updated: Aug 17, 2020, 9:23 am

After a scorching day Sunday across the Puget Sound region, cooler air moved in for the evening. And with it, thunderstorms.

Lightning and thunder was reported in several locations on Sunday evening, including around North Bend, the King-Snohomish County line, and the Olympic Peninsula. The National Weather Service in Seattle said little to no precipitation was expected, but warned that lightning could start fires.

The NWS reports Sea-Tac Airport tied a record at 98 degrees Sunday. The last time it hit 98 degrees on Aug. 16 was back in 1967.

Forecasters say it’ll be much cooler Monday with high temperatures in the low 80s. By Wednesday, most of the Puget Sound will be in high 70s range.
