Tickets for Thursday’s Seahawks game most expensive ever

Sep 4, 2014, 5:46 AM | Updated: 5:46 am

Looking to score a last minute ticket to Thursday’s Seahawks’ season opener at CenturyLink Field? Get ready to break the bank.

Tickets for the long sold out game against the Packers are going for an average price of $433, according to a new analysis prepared for MyNorthwest.com by online ticket service Seat Geek.

“It is the most expensive game we’ve ever seen in the NFL and by far,” says Seat Geek analyst Connor Gregoire.

Gregoire says no other regular season game has generated an average price above $400. The closest was a $386 average for the 2010 season opener in New Orleans between the Saints and Vikings – a game that also featured a Super Bowl championship celebration.

If you just want to be in the building, the cheapest seat on the market right now is going for $188 in Section 301, in the far corner of the upper deck, Gregoire says.

The analysis finds about 12,000 tickets have traded on the secondary market for Thursday night’s game, with another 6,000 still listed for resale on Stub Hub and other ticket sites.

Gregoire says a lot of fans clearly aren’t intent on selling their tickets, even though they’ve listed them.

“It seems as though a lot of ticket holders are listing their seats at above-market prices with the intention of using them if they don’t sell and pocketing the larger profit if they do.”

The average price for Thursday’s game on the secondary market far outpaces any other game in the NFL for opening weekend. The next highest is $325 in Indianapolis, where the Colts host the Denver Broncos. The lowest average ticket price is just $65 in Kansas City, where the Chiefs host the Tennessee Titans.
