The Washington State Patrol says troopers found three children locked in the trunk after pulling over a speeding car on Interstate 405 near Bothell this weekend.
As the trooper worked the traffic stop, he heard muffled banging from the back of the car. When he popped the trunk, he found an 8-year-old girl, two boys aged 7 and 5, and a Chihuahua.
Trooper Keith Leary says the mom claims they climbed into the trunk from the backseat, but there were no car seats, and the backseat was full of other stuff.
“I think a normal person would think what the heck are these people thinking putting their kids in the trunk?” says Leary.
Anna Boyle, 28, and her fiance 27-year-old Aaron Johnson were booked into Snohomish County Jail Sunday on investigation of multiple charges, including drug possession and reckless child endangerment. A search of the car turned up meth, heroin and prescription pills.
Boyle, who was driving the car, didn’t tell troopers about the children until they heard thumping sounds from the trunk.
